Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will become Central Asian sustainable development hub
ASTANA. January 30. KAZINFORM Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will be a Central Asian hub on the problems of sustainable development, the solution of which is one of the main objectives of UNESCO.
The university's mission is to advocate and promote the principles of sustainable development and the mobilization of the international academic community for their implementation. Priority goal is to develop innovative approaches to address global challenges of our time and create a mechanism for training and retraining of personnel in this sphere.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Al-Farabi University rector, academician Galym Mutanov and UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Dr. Qian Tang.
"This is my first visit to Kazakhstan. I am glad that it started with a visit to the Al-Farabi National University. We intend to cooperate with the university in many scientific fields and carry out joint projects," Qian Tang said at the meeting.
The UNESCO representative noted that the holding of the III Asian University Rectors' Forum in 2014 in Kazakhstan which will be held at the Al-Farabi University, once again confirms its leading position in the Asia-Pacific region.
The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation in the international project "Green Bridge: through Generations" initiated by the Kazakh National University. The project is carried out in support of the ideas of President Nursultan Nazarbayev "Global energy and ecological strategy of sustainable development for the XXI century" and "Green Bridge".
