Zhambyl residents partake in Epiphany bathing
The churches welcome everybody willing to take home some Epiphany water and feel the spirit of the great holiday. "The Epiphany is one of the twelve feasts of the Christian year. Water becomes unique on this day, it can be stored stay fresh for years. However, this can be explained. The water of the earth hasn't changed in the water cycle of nature. The water in which Jesus Christ was baptized two thousand years ago is still in the water cycle. Therefore, the water collected on this day is considered to be holy and called agiasma. Churches use this water in the most important rituals," archpriest Georgy told. Traditionally, the Epiphany bathing is arranged in the waters of the Talas River in Zhambyl region and in the spring named Aulie-bastau in Zhambyl district.
