YEREIMENTAU MONUMENTS

eimentau sculptures are the monuments of ancient art, a group of stone sculptures of Turk Khanate (VI-VIII centuries). The monuments are located near Yereimentau in Yereimentau municipality of Akmola region along Sileta, Torgai and Kedey Rivers.

They were studied in 1942, 1946-1960 years headed by A. Mashanov and A. Margulan from the Central-Kazakhstan Archeological Expedition.

The two monuments were discovered in the north-east part of Akmola region at foothill of Yereimentau by engineer-geologist A. Mashanov. The monuments known as Kos-Batyr were located up-river Kedey near Zhaushoky hill at the 8 km to the south of Turgay village.

The monuments are made of grey granite in the form of men with moustaches. According to A. Mashanov there are signs similar to Orkhon letter. The monuments are near the graves fenced by hacked granite slabs to East. The tradition of statuary art has gradually disappeared with the spread of Islam.

The monuments are protected by the state.
