The ninth day of the FIFA World Cup saw the United States secure a place in the knockout stage, while Brazil claimed their first win of the tournament, Qazinform News Agency reports.

In Group D, co-hosts the United States defeated Australia 2-0 to become the second team after Mexico to book a place in the round of 32. The victory moved Mauricio Pochettino’s side to six points from two matches and guaranteed their place in the knockout stage.

Later in the same group, Paraguay defeated Türkiye 1-0 to boost their qualification hopes. Türkiye suffered their second consecutive defeat and were eliminated from the tournament.

Group C began with Morocco edging Scotland 1-0 to move to four points from two matches.

Brazil then claimed their first win of the campaign with a 3-0 victory over Haiti after opening their tournament with a draw against Morocco.

After two rounds of matches, the United States top Group D with six points and have secured a place in the knockout stage. Paraguay moved to three points after two matches, while Türkiye remained without a point and were eliminated from the tournament.

In Group C, Morocco climbed to the top of the standings with four points, Brazil moved into second place with four points, Scotland remained on three points and Haiti stayed without a point.

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that Mexico became the first team to secure a place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after defeating the Republic of Korea 1-0, while co-hosts Canada claimed their first-ever World Cup victory with a dominant 6-0 win over Qatar.
