World №1 upsets Kazakhstan’s Putintseva in Indian Wells

World №79 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan lost her chance to stroll into the BNP Paribas Open quarterfinal in Indian Wells on Tuesday night, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Putintseva was upset by world №1 Iga Swiatek in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth-round match, booking a quarterfinal encounter with former №1 Caroline Wozniacki and easing into her third consecutive quarterfinal at the BNP Paribas Open.

Swiatek took her head to head rivalry with the Kazakhstani to 3-0, previously defeating Putintseva in Ostrava in 2021 and at the United Cup in 2023.

On her way to the fourth round Putintseva edged out Madison Keys and Ekaterina Alexandrova.
