Work on EEU Customs Code nearing completion

MINSK. KAZINFORM The customs services of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan are finishing the work on the draft Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Sergei Poluden told reporters on 19 September.

The document aims to formalize the modern principles and mechanisms of customs administration in the common economic space, Sergei Poluden said.

The experts working on the Customs Code will take into consideration European and global standards. The document will serve as a legal basis for implementing inter-state projects.

The draft code includes the provisions of the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Kyoto Convention), convention on the simplification of formalities in trade in goods, and the SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE Framework) of the World Customs Organization. "All the three member states of the Customs Union and later the EEU, view transit as one of their national economic priorities," Sergei Poluden underlined, BelTA reports.
