Whooping cough on the rise in Akmola region

Whooping cough cases grew fourfold in Akmola region, chief state sanitary doctor of Akmola region Ainagul Mussina told a briefing.

Since January whooping cough cases increased four times as compared to the same period of 2023. Six cases were recorded in 2023. Of which five were detected in Kokshetau city and one in Zerenda district. All of them were unvaccinated against whooping cough.
Vaccination is only way to prevent whooping cough spread. 10,300 children including 10,008 under one year old, or 89.8% were vaccinated last year. The least vaccination rates are recorded in Tselinograd district and the city of Kokshetau.
