WHO to host consultations on HIV prevention in Nov. in Geneva

MOSCOW. October 14. KAZINFORM. The World Health Organization will host a meeting on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV prevention in Switzerland's Geneva between November 2 and 4; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

The meeting will bring together a broad range of researchers, policy and program planners, civil society representatives, people living with HIV, gender advocates, human right experts and ethicists, cosponsors of UNAIDS, donors and bilateral agencies, the organization said in a statement on its website.

The consultations, the statement said, will focus on various issues concerning the antiretroviral therapy for HIV prevention including "feasibility and acceptability, human rights and ethical implications, and research priorities."

According to the latest data provided by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in 2007, the number of AIDS cases worldwide stands at more than 33 million, including 1.6 million cases in Latin America. Countries in sub-Saharan Africa remain the center of the AIDS epidemic; Kazinform cites RIA Novosti.
