What rare and precious metals produced in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstani producers of rare metals include the Ulba Metallurgical Plant (beryllium, tantalum, niobium), Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium-Magnesium Combine, Zhezkazgansirekmet Republican Copper Company (ammonium perrhenate), as well as Kazzinc (selenium, bismuth), Kazakhmys metallurgical plant (copper telluride), Kazakhmys Progress (enriched selenium) as by-products, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports citing the Ministry of Industry and Construction.

Samruk Kazyna’s subsidiary Ulba Metallurgical Plant is among three major providers of full cycle of beryllium, four providers of tantalum and niobium in the world.

The Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium-Magnesium Combine produces titanium sponge, ingots and slabs, has the capacity for the production of titanium allots and vanadium pentoxide.

Titanium products are supplied to foreign customers, including Boeing, Airbus, Nippon Steel, Snecma, and General Electric, said the ministry in their response to the Kazinform News Agency correspondent’s inquiry.

According to the ministry, the Zhezkazgansirekmet Republican Copper Company is the producer of ammonium perrhenate with 69.2% content of rhenium, making it the top-10 providers of rhenium in the world.

Kazzinc produces and exports rough selenium and bismuth, Kazakhmys metallurgical plant is a producer of telluride, and Aluminum Kazakhstan has the capacity to extract gallium from aluminum solutions.
