Western Europe-Western China corridor a secure link between regions of Kazakhstan

According to the Highways Committee under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the construction works in this region are in full swing since day one of the project's implementation.

The official web page of the ministry says five local contracting companies are engaged in the process. The renovation project of the corridor takes into account the peculiarities of the region.

The reconstruction process of the Western Europe-Western China international transport corridor was initiated by President Nazarbayev in 2009. It was he who proposed to resurrect the idea of the Great Silk Road, an unprecedented trade way that bridged East and West many years ago. As a result, a number of memorandums was signed with the neighboring countries to start the implementation of the project.

This project will help Kazakhstan realize its transit potential as well as create a secure transport link between the southern and western regions of the country.

It is worth mentioning, the Western Europe-Western China transport corridor is the fastest path to transit goods from China to Europe. It takes only 10 days via the corridor while via railroad and marine transport - 15 and 45 days respectively.

Kazakhstan's section of the international transport corridor is believed to be fully completed and put into operation in 2015.
