Waste management system to be modernized in Astana

ASTANA. November 5. KAZINFORM In the capital in order to enhance depth of waste processing (up to 50%) they consider an opportunity of introduction of a biogas unit on the base of the function garbage recycling plant. This unit will allow recycling organic (food) waste with getting of alternative energy sources at the output (heat and electric power), Kazinform refers to astana.kz.

This was reported to astana.kz in the sustainment and infrastructure development department of Astana city akim's central office.

"Over the period of the garbage recycling plant functioning, from December 24, 2012, to November 1, 2013, 149 613 tons of solid household waste were accepted, 58 996 tons of them were preformed and 78 236 tons of household solid waste were removed in bulk. Processing depth amounted to 8,27% (12 380 tons of household solid waste)", - it is reported in the message.

It's worth noting that as of today in order to maintain sanitary condition and aesthetic image of the city, stock control is carried out for container areas and containers situated within the territory of assigned areas, schedules of household solid waste removal were reconsidered, the number of scheduled rounds was increased in places where containers are overfull. In addition, in order to maintain aesthetic image of main streets, containers are mover to yard territories.

Besides, within the framework of preparation to the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017, in 2014, the Administration of natural resources plans to organize separate waste collection in places of waste accumulation according to two main types: organic (food) and household (mixed) waste, with stage-by-stage replacement of existing metallic containers by plastic ones.
