Voter turnout much higher than in previous presidential elections - CEC

ASTANA. April 3. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ Voter turnout in Kazakhstan's snap presidential elections reached 66% (6 million 94 thousand 566) as of 14:00 p.m. April 3. Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Vladimir Foos said at a briefing in Astana.

According to him, voter turnout in Akmola region is 75,9%, Aktobe region - 65,3%, Almaty region - 84%, Atyrau region - 70.2%, East Kazakhstan region - 72,3%, Zhambyl region - 72,2%, West Kazakhstan region - 65%, Karaganda region - 66%, Kostanay region - 76%, Kyzylorda region - 72,9%, Mangystau region - 57%, Pavlodar region - 66,8%, North Kazakhstan region - 67.7%, South Kazakhstan region - 70%, Astana - 31.7%, Almaty - 38,5%.

"For comparison: in the previous presidential elections in 2005, the turnout at 14:00 p.m. was 48.8%; now eight regions have got 70% or higher," V. Foos noted.
