Volunteers to help in implementation of state policy of Kazakhstan – US Ambassador to Kazakhstan

You play an important role in improvement of education and implementation of the state policy of Kazakhstan", - US Ambassador to Kazakhstan Richard E. Hoagland said at the admission ceremony of Peace Corps volunteers in Kazakhstan taken place in Almaty last week.

"Kazakhstan is a large country equal in area of the whole Eastern Europe. But it has the reputation of one of the most hospitable countries in the world. I am sure that you will meet many open and sincere people here", - R. Hoagland noted. According to him when he was young he worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa.

The new group of volunteers - 63 people undertook 10-week training and is ready to work in Kazakhstan in different spheres as education, healthcare and development of communities. 43 volunteers will work to different educational institutions of rural district and cities of the country. Their main objective is to help students and teachers in development of language skills as well as introduce new interactive techniques of teaching.

The first six months the volunteers will live with local families. Such close communication will help them to familiarize with the culture of Kazakhstan. Our country is one of 73 countries where Peace Corps volunteers work. Since 1993 there have been about 20 groups from the USA or over 840 volunteers.

Since 1961, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America's most precious resource - its people. Peace Corps Volunteers serve in 74 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Collaborating with local community members, Volunteers work in areas like education, youth outreach and community development, the environment, and information technology.
