"All these years we have carefully studied the European model of integration. It was a kind of shrine; we followed everything that had been done. Now there occurred obvious shortcomings of the integration. But what you need to learn from the Europeans is how carefully they examine weakpoints and overcome the mistakes made", said Kairat Kelimbetov.

Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the highest mutual trade activities of the CU countries are related to the financial crisis.

"Comparing with 2007 showings 11% is a slight increase but we must remember that the 2008-2010 were the years of the acute phase of crisis around the world including the countries of the Customs Union. If we compare the years 2009 and 2008, 2009 with 2010 statistics and so on than the growth, in fact, was at the level of 20-30%", said Kairat Kelimbetov.

Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the CU was a response to the challenges that have occurred in the world in the period of the financial crisis.

"Our society sometimes has slightly radical approach, i.e. either everything is very good or very bad. The building, which has been constructed for 40 years, is very robust. However, sometime it needs an appropriate repair. But in general, I believe that the European model continues to be an example for us. And in spite of the problems occurring there at present, we need to learn from them and examine a lot ", concluded the Deputy Prime Minister.
