Vice FM Volkov takes part in 2013 Conference on Disarmament in Geneva

In his speech at the Conference on Disarmament, Mr. Volkov noted it was necessary to adopted a balanced program of work of the conference and comply with the principles governing the peaceful activities in exploration of space.
The head of Kazakhstan's delegation also stressed our country was committed to signing legally binding instrument in the field of elimination of the nuclear threat, hailed President Obama's decision to go for the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty by the U.S. Senate and expressed his concerns over the nuclear test recently conducted by North Korea in violation of the resolution of the UN Security Council.
Mr. Volkov informed those present of the next round of talks on Iran's nuclear program that was underway in Almaty. He expressed hope the event would help solve the situation in a diplomatic way.
At the 22nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Vice Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan emphasized Kazakhstan stood for the strengthening of the international system of human rights organizations.
On February 25, Mr. Volkov conducted consultations between foreign ministries of Russia and Kazakhstan to focus on the cooperation in the context of Kazakhstan's membership in the United Nations Human Rights Council.
Within the framework of the visit, he also met with Director General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay and other heads of foreign delegations.
