Uzbekistan launches Parliamentary election campaign

The election to Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, as well as regional, district and city Council of People's Deputies will be held on 21 December 2014.

According to the law "On elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan", election campaign begins from the date of candidates' registration and ends on December 19. The agitation campaign cannot be held on the day of election and the day before the voting.

The voting will take place from 6:00 to 20:00 of December 21. The results of election and list of elected MPs to Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, as well as regional, district and city Council of People's Deputies will be published in mass media before December 31.

Uzbekistan has bi-cameral parliament. Legislative Chamber has 150 deputies elected from territorial constituencies. Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan receives 15 seats in parliament.

The upper house - Senate has 100 members, 84 elected from the regions, from the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan and from the capital, Tashkent, and an additional 16 nominated by the President of Uzbekistan. Both houses have five-year terms.
