US Democracy Commission offers small grants program for Kazakhstan NGOs
Proposals are evaluated according to the issue to be addressed, clearly identified target groups, well formulated goals, and the ability of the applying organization to achieve the objectives of the project, th press service of the US Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan. The program is interested in projects relating to building democratic institutions (support the creation of NGO resource centers that focus on themes which promote democracy such as civic education, transparency in government, and volunteer training); fostering a strong and independent media (grants for the creation and development of independent electronic and print media), etc.
Although the maximum funding available for a single grant is $30,000, the average amount of awarded grants is between $7,000 and $15,000.
The U.S. Embassy will accept applications for fiscal year 2014 until June 30, 2014. The Democracy Commission will meet at the end of March, at the end of May, and at the end of July.
Proposed projects that meet the program criteria will be considered at a meeting of the U.S. Embassy Astana Democracy Commission approximately six weeks after the deadline for submitting proposals.
