US closed criminal case against Maxim Bakiyev, Kyrgyzstan disappointed

BISHKEK. May 10. KAZINFORM cites AKIPress - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Erlan Abdyldaev May 10, at the Foreign Ministry building of Kyrgyzstan met with U.S. Ambassador Pamela Spartlen. During the meeting the parties discussed the issue of May 3 crash of the American tanker in the Chui region of the country. The minister also raised the issue regarding the closure of the criminal case against Maxim Bakiyev.

As usual, the media is only allowed to the protocol of the meeting, when the parties are greeting each other. The rest of the meeting was behind closed doors to the reporters.

After words of welcome E.Abdyldaev expressed the position of the Kyrgyz side of the cessation of the criminal case against the youngest son of former Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev - Maxim Bakiyev, who is accused of financial fraud. The Minister said that the Kyrgyz side was very much disappointed with the U.S. side review of Bakiiyev's extradition request, who is living in the UK, and said that Maxim Bakiyev was the criminal, convicted by the District Court of the Kyrgyz Republic.

"The basic principle of democracy is the rule of law. And in this case it did not work. We regret this, " he said.

In turn P.Spartlen noted that she could not comment on the decision of the Department of Justice.
