Urumqi hosts Eurasian Media Forum

URUMQI. KAZINFORM - Eurasian Media Forum, which has kicked off today in the city of Urumqi - the administrative center of the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China, brought together 50 media representatives from 15 countries.

The forum is to discuss media cooperation in Eurasia and the revival of the Great Silk Road. The event is organized in the framework of the IV Expo "China-Eurasia". The media forum is themed "Joint establishment of the Silk Road‘s economic zone, responsibility and opportunity of the media". In his speech, Deputy Director of the Press Office of the State Council of China Cui Yuying noted the need to strengthen the work of the media by organizing press tours, joint interviews and improving the mechanism of information exchange. "Chinese media are willing to strengthen media cooperation with relevant countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt", she said. Silk Road Economic Belt is a large-scale geopolitical, geo-economic and cultural-humanitarian project in China. It covers 40 countries with a combined population of 3 billion. The initiative was announced by President Xi Jinping during his visit to Kazakhstan in September 2013.
