URGENT: Almaty police attackers killed in shootout

ASTANA. July 30. KAZINFORM Today, July 30, operating units of the police have killed six criminals suspected of the armed attack on police officers on July 28 in Almaty, the press service of the Kazakh General Prosecutor's Office reported.

Identities of the suspected persons, previously convicted for commitment of grave crimes, were established during the investigative actions.

The criminals were found in a house in Akhsel Ken microdistrict, Almaty. Residents of this and nearby homes were evacuated.

During the operation the gang members refused to surrender and were killed in shootout. Firearms were discovered at the scene and confiscated. No one of the locals was killed or injured.

As earlier reported, July 28, at 9:00 am, unknown persons committed an armed attack on police officers on Bekmakhan Street in Turksibsky district in Almaty.

Senior lieutenant Yezhan Kairakbayev succumbed to head injury at the scene, his colleague lieutenant Yernaz Kozhakhmetov was hospitalized with heavy injuries.

On allegedly data, criminals laid hands on government-issue weapons of the victims.

A criminal case under article 96 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (murder) was initiated.
