Universities must become a core of economy of knowledge - Kazakh Education Minister

ASTANA. October 21. KAZINFORM. /Damir Baimanov/ The task of the universities for the nearest decade is to become a core of economy of knowledge and accelerator of the country's innovative development. Kazakh Minister of Education and Science Zhanseit Tuimebayev has expressed such opinion at a roundtable in Astana today.

"Education, science and production should integrate in the modern world. Universities are the locomotives of the educational system and the society as a whole. In a number of countries economic breakthrough is ensured through the activity of research institutes", Mr. Tuimebayev said.

According to him, Kazakhstan is taking measures in this direction as well. Using the national budget funds 15 universities opened engineering laboratories for holding research on priority directions of science. The higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan implement projects of development of innovative infrastructure; create scientific-technological parks, institutes and laboratories. At present technology parks operate in nine technical universities. Two more institutions plan to open technology parks as well", the Minister noted.
