Unique heart surgery performed in Astana

ASTANA. July 29. KAZINFORM /Gulnara Zhandagulova/ Unique heart surgery - treatment of arrhythmias - was first held in Kazakhstan on the basis of Astana Municipal Hospital No. 2.
"This unique surgery - radiofrequency ablation in treatment of atrial fibrillation - was almost not available. The operation lasts about 3-4 hours. It is unique since apart from heart surgery we perform surgeries for abnormal heart rhythm. This is needed to reduce the risk of possible complications and strokes in a post surgical period," says Maksat Zhanturganov, head physician of the hospital.
According to him, its is planned to perform 100-200 surgeries every year. At least 400-600 Astana residents and more than 1 million Kazakhstanis need such treatment annually.
