UN Special Rapporteur on Torture to visit Kazakhstan

ASTANA. September 27. KAZINFORM UN Special Rapporteur on Torture Manfred Nowak will visit Kazakhstan on September 29-October 1. Official Representative of Kazakh Foreign Ministry Askar Abdrakhmanov has informed about it at a weekly briefing today.
Mr. Nowak is expected to hold talks with heads of Kazakhstan's state bodies, including the Supreme Court, Prosecutor General's Office, and ministries of foreign affairs, internal affairs, justice and healthcare. He will also take part in a special training on prison monitoring methods and a roundtable on the issues of torture prevention in Kazakhstan. Both events are organized by regional departments of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), representations of Penal Reform International in Central Asia, Kazakhstan Coalition against Torture and Open Society Justice Initiative.
