UN Special Rapporteur noted readiness of Kazakh Government to realize right to adequate housing
She has been in Kazakhstan since September 6. The goal of the visit was to evaluate and make a report on realization in the country the right to adequate housing and all connected rights.
R. Rolnik represented a report with the rate of world economic and financial crisis on the realization of rights to adequate housing. She analyzed the measures taken by the Kazakh Government for protection of the most vulnerable groups in society from negative consequences of the financial crisis.
'The global crisis affected the realization of the right among the most vulnerable groups in society. I cannot help noting the efforts taken by the Government to relieve the consequences of the crisis for these groups. One of those measures was establishment of the fund with the aim to continue construction of the houses that had been stopped due to the crisis, etc. The Government took active position on this situation. I call on the Government for finding and developing the long term solutions to the problem', R. Rolnik said.
The report she has made is to be represented to the UN Council on Human Rights in March 2011.
