UN Sec-Gen praised Kazakhstan's efforts on settling situation in Kyrgyzstan and stabilizing Afghanistan

ASTANA. September 20. KAZINFORM Kazakh Secretary of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the threshold of the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York; Kazinform has learnt from the Kazakh MFA's press service.

The parties considered the issues of modern international relations, the situation in Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. The UN Secretary-General praised the efforts of Kazakhstan as OSCE chair country on settling the situation in Kyrgyzstan and contributing to the post-war economic and humanitarian rehabilitation of Afghanistan.

K. Saudabayev told about the progress of preparation for the OSCE Summit in Astana and handed over an invitation from Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Ban Ki-moon to this top-level meeting.

Speaking about Kazakhstan-UN cooperation Mr. Ban Ki-moon noted the importance of the events held within the framework of the United Nations to mark the International Day against Nuclear Tests initiated by Astana.
