Ukraine sets up working group to cooperate with Customs Union

KYIV. June 7. KAZINFORM A working group for cooperation with the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan has been set up in Ukraine. The group will be led by Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko. The relevant decree has been signed by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on 6 June, BelTA learnt from the press service of the head of state; Kazinform refers to BelTA.

The working group was given two months to prepare and submit proposals on Ukraine's cooperation strategy with the Customs Union in the 3+1 format. The working group will include representatives of state-run companies, organizations, central and local authorities, executive bodies and experts.

Viktor Yanukovych had stated earlier that Ukraine's strategic course is aimed at integration with Europe, which was formalized in the law on principles of domestic and foreign policy of the state. At the same time, Ukraine has to take into consideration the establishment of the Customs Union with the neighboring states and develop the necessary cooperation instruments.

Ukraine seeks a mutually beneficial cooperation with the Customs Union in the 3+1 format.

The Ukrainian government believes that cooperation with the Customs Union will not prevent the establishment of the free trade zone with the European Union.
