Ukraine going to EU not for loans, Azarov says
"Our desire, say, to sign an Association Agreement - it is absolutely not associated with the need to get some loans there," the head of government noted.
Azarov also said that the issue of a loan agreement between the EU and Ukraine in the amount of 610 million euros is still unresolved.
"610 million euros - it was a promise that was given 4-3 years ago. Each time it was conditions by a number of terms, and now, say, it is tied to an agreement with the IMF. That is, first enter into an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, meet all the conditions of the International Monetary Fund, then we will consider the allocation of the first tranche in the amount of 110 million euros," the prime minister noted.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada was proposed to ratify a memorandum of understanding and a loan agreement between the EU and Ukraine in the amount of 610 million euros. According to these documents, the EU may provide Ukraine with macro-financial assistance at the specified amount as agreed with the IMF. The loan will be issued in four tranches, with a maximum maturity of 15 years.
Ukraine plans to sign the Association Agreement with the EU at the Eastern Partnership Summit on November 29 in Vilnius.
