A shoplifting suspect apparently shot the officers during a struggle, Burbank City spokesman Keith Sterling said.

Several shots were fired when the officers were escorting the suspect from the store shortly after noon Friday, said Sterling.

The officers suffered minor injuries, with one shot in the hand and the other in the leg, said Sterling.

The attacker was jolted with a Taser stun gun, witnesses said.

The suspect was taken into custody and it's not immediately clear whether he was injured, said Sterling.

The local TV KCLA9 reported that the suspect was also injured, but the extent of the person's injuries was unknown.

The parking lot of the store was cordoned off while police investigated the shooting and searched vehicles to determine which one the suspect may have been driving, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
