Two kids die from measles in Kazakhstan
Vice Minister of Healthcare Aizhan Yesmagambetova said two babies under 12 months old died from measles in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.
One of the lethal cases was recorded in the city Astana, and another one in East Kazakhstan.
30 children with measles are staying in the ICU wards in critical condition as of today. Of which 15 are babies under 1 year old.
More than 3,500 measles beds are available throughout Kazakhstan. 2,375 children are staying in the hospitals. 60% of beds are occupied as of now. The highest hospitalizations up to 92% are recorded in Zhambyl region, 88% in Almaty city, 81% in Turkistan region, and 79% in the city of Shymkent.
Over 600 children or 84% of children eligible for vaccination against measles aged 1-6 years old received the vaccine. Over 100,000 more are eligible for vaccination through the end of the year. Over 15,000 people were administered the measles vaccine as part of emergency vaccination, and 63,000 as part of catch-up vaccination.
