Two Kamchatka volcanoes continue to emit ash and gases

VLADIVOSTOK. July 9. KAZINFORM The Karymsky volcano on Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula has spewed ash and gas to an altitude of 3.5 kilometres above sea level, a spokesman for the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) told Itar-Tass on Saturday; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

Moreover, the spokesman said, about 600 seismic events accompanied by stone avalanches have been registered on the volcano in the past 24 hours.

Another volcano, Shiveluch, also showed seismic activity, having emitted gas and ash plumes to a height of 3.3 kilometers above sea level. Avalanches were registered on this volcano as well.

Emissions of Karymsky and Shiveluch have been reported throughout the entire week. According to experts, Shiveluch might any time spew ash to a height of more than ten kilometers, while Karymcky's emission might reach six kiloteres above sea level. Volcanic dust and emitted gases might pose threat to aircraft; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
