TURKPA observers praise equal access to voting at Qurultay elections

The TURKPA mission highly appreciated conditions for voting for women, youth, and persons with reduced mobility in the elections of the deputies of Qurultay, Qazinform News Agency quotes Osman Mesten, Head of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) Observer Mission and Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations, a deputy of Türkiye's Grand National Assembly, as saying.

He said the mission arrived in Kazakhstan on August 22 to monitor the election process.

On election day, the observers arrived at polling stations at 07:00 am and stayed there until 08:00 pm. He said the elections were held in a quiet atmosphere. He described the elections as historic for the entire country and people of Kazakhstan.

During a briefing at the Center for Assistance to International Observers and Foreign Media in Astana, the mission praised the Central Election Commission’s efforts to ensure participation of women, youth and people with reduced mobility in the voting.

The members of the TURKPA mission visited several polling stations to make sure that citizens had an opportunity to freely express their will.

He concluded the election commissions provided access for all groups of society and all nationals of Kazakhstan to the election.

Earlier, he also highlighted the increased representation of women in the new parliament.
