Turkmenistan creates new TV and film opportunities

ASHGABAT. October 18. KAZINFORM Turkmen president Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov signed a decree to launch the State Committee for TV, Radio broadcasting and Filmmaking. In the next ,month, proposals will be placed before the Justice Ministry to amend parts of the national legislation. This in turn will then be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers; Kazinform refers to Trend.
The country had abolished the previous General Directorate of Turkmen TV, and appointed successor Mr Shadurdy Alovov as chairman of the new State Committee.
The Turkmenfilm Association named after Oguz Khan and the State Enterprise Teleradiomerkezi will now come under the banner of the newly formed State Committee.
Mr Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov went on to say the decree was 'aimed at developing TV, radio and filmmaking and to bring it into the modern epoch of New Revival with sweeping reforms and to acknowledge the skills of our media people who have led the way in our independent Motherland by promoting our history, rich national culture and art throughout the world'; Kazinform cites Trend.
