“There are 48 species of mammals registered in the park, 5 of which are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Kazakhstan. One of these rare species is the Turkistan lynx (Felis lynx isabellinus). The red-listed cat family is extremely rare and its life in the wild is usually monitored using camera traps. In the course of monitoring conducted in spring and autumn 2024, lynxes were caught in camera traps installed by inspectors near salt pans,” the press service of the national park said.

As highlighted by the national park, these data are crucial for biodiversity conservation in Kazakhstan.

The Ile-Alatau State National Nature Park has stated that continuous monitoring will assist in gaining a deeper understanding of Turkistan lynx behavior, which will in turn facilitate the development of effective protection measures.

“Continuous monitoring will help better understand the behavior of Turkistan lynxes and develop measures for their protection,” the message reads.
