Turkish national accused of vehicular homicide may be sentenced to 10 years in prison

We remind that the Turkish national driving a Volvo on the Atyrau- Astrakhan highway lost control on the slippery road and drove in the oncoming lane, where he clashed with the UAZ, which caught fire as a result. The police that happened to be near the site of the accident had managed to evacuate the driver and three passengers from the burning car before it exploded. One more passenger who remained in the car was killed by the fire. The injured were taken to Isatai district's hospital. The Volvo driver was detained. He was supposed to be prosecuted under Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan.

Now that the number of victims has doubled, the case will be reclassified under part 3 of the same article saying that reckless killing of two or more persons is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years, according to the head of the press service of the region's interior department, Gulnazira Mukhtarova.
