Transit volume through territories of Kazakhstan and Russia increased by 35%

ASTANA. November 13. KAZINFORM The total transit volume through the territories of Kazakhstan and Russia increased by 35%, President of "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" JSC Askar Mamin said at the 3rd International Railway Business Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520: Central Asia" in Astana today.

"The transit volume through the territories of Kazakhstan and Russia increased by over 35% in 9 months of 2012. This is a high indicator. Further increase of the freight transit requires adequate development of the national transport infrastructures," A.Mamin said.

He also noted that Kazakhstan modernizes its railway lines paying special attention to expansion of the national network of railways.  

Thus, "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" informs that several projects are currently implemented in the country and will be completed in 2 years. Due to it, the total length of the railways built in the territory of the country will make about 2.5 thousand km.

The new railways will help to expand export and import opportunities within the Single Economic Space and activate the configuration of East - West transit corridors, the information posted on www.primeminister.kz  reads.
