Trade unions bill discussed between Kazakhstan and the U.S.

ASTANA. August 29. KAZINFORM Head of the Kazakh Ministry of Labor and Social Protection Tamara Duisenova met with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the U.S. to Kazakhstan Kenneth J. Fairfax , the press service of the authority reports.

A draft law of Kazakhstan on trade unions and modernization of pension system were discussed during the meeting.

The Kazakh Labor Minister explained the bill should be developed in line with the socio-economic state of the Kazakh society; the legal realities of the present stage of development define the need for further improvement of the legislation on trade unions.

The main aim of the draft is to define the basic arrangements for trade union movements in order to protect labor, social economic rights and interests of laborers, enhancing the role of trade unions in social partnership and a dialogue at all levels, prevention of social and labor conflicts. In this context, it was reported that the experience of Germany, the U.S., the UK, Scandinavia, Singapore was studied during the draft's development.

In addition, the draft was sent to the International Labor Organization (ILO) taking into account the recommendations.

The U.S. Ambassador said the position of the American Embassy is in accord with the position of the ILO.

In addition, Kenneth J. Fairfax told about trainings on combating human trafficking together with the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Besides, Ms. Duisenova asked the U.S. Ambassador to provide information on the U.S pension system and the system of social protection.

Mr. Fairfax said the Embassy is ready to provide necessary materials and briefed Ms. Duisenova on the U.S. pension system. As for the social protection in his country, the Ambassador said that every U.S. state takes independent decisions.
