Tokayev on new presidential term: Too early to discuss
After casting his vote in today's election of Qurultay deputies, President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev answered a question from journalists regarding the possibility of his participation in future presidential elections, Qazinform News Agency reports.
Tokayev said that the Constitutional Court had made a lawful decision granting him the right to seek re‑election. However, he stressed that it was premature to speculate about upcoming elections or whether he would run.
He emphasized that the country must now focus on addressing pressing tasks, including turning Kazakhstan into a “large construction site” with priority given to social facilities for citizens.
“I am ready to use the National Fund for these purposes. Why should we keep money in securities abroad when it can be used for the benefit of the people? I am against sitting on this money like a dog in the manger. In other words, it must serve the people, our citizens,” he stated.
The President also highlighted that the international situation requires constant analysis and vigilance.
He noted that despite global challenges, Kazakhstan had managed to maintain peaceful internal conditions, enabling economic growth confirmed by major international financial institutions.
Tokayev added that he would be able to provide a more concrete answer regarding his participation in future elections at a later time.
“So let us meet again. Perhaps next year I will give you a more concrete answer,” concluded he.
Earlier, Tokayev said that the Vice President of Kazakhstan would be appointed next week or within 10 days.
