Thai farmer kills himself after dad's too-much-football rebuke

Police were informed of the suicide on Thursday by staff from Sappasit Prasong Hospital in the north-eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani.

Dechatorn Karawong, 28, died of multiple organ failure after ingesting the weedkiller, the Bangkok Post reported.

Police quoted Dechatorn's older sister, Kittitara Karawong, as saying their father scolded her brother for watching World Cup matches late into the night and then failing to help his parents plough their rice paddy field in the morning.

She said her father told Dechatorn Sunday night that he should eat a football instead of rice if he wanted to watch the World Cup instead of work.

Dechatorn was so upset by the father's criticism that he swallowed the weedkiller, Kittitara said.

Relatives rushed him to a local hospital. He was later moved to Sappasit Prasong Hospital where he succumbed to the poison, Kazinform cites Trend News. See www.en.trend.az
