Terrorists detained before opening of Kabul conference: official

KABUL. July 21. KAZINFORM Afghan security authorities detained some suspected terrorists who allegedly planned to carry out attack on the capital Kabul to disrupt the first major international conference hosted by post-Taliban Afghanistan on Tuesday, deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Munir Mangal said Wednesday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
"Personnel of law enforcing agencies spotted and captured some terrorists and thus foiled their conspiracy to target Kabul and disrupt the Kabul conference," Mangal told a news conference.
However, he did not reveal how many suspected terrorists were detained, saying they were arrested hours before the opening of the conference.
He also confirmed that four rockets fired by insurgnets hit the captial city on the eve of Kabul conference but caused no loss of life.
He said that the strength of Afghan police would increase from current 120,000 to 134,000 by the end of next year.
He also said that Afghan police would build its capacity to further ensure law and order in each province of the country, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com
