Synthetic drugs consumption in Kazakhstan increased - Internal AffairsMinistry

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstan is still affected by the expansion of international drug trafficking and continues to fight drug trafficking, focusing on improvements to legislation, prevention, and supply reduction, this has been reported today by the chairman of the Committee on counter-narcotics and illicit drugs under the Internal Affairs Ministry Anatoly Vyborov at a press conference in Astana.

"Unfortunately, that particular deficiency in illicit drug markets, namely narcotics of heroin origin, caused another trend - spread of synthetic drugs coming to Kazakhstan from Western Europe through the Russian Federation. The drugs include amphetamines, ecstasy, LSD, etc.", said A. Vyborov. A.Vyborov added that the main factors influencing illegal drug use and sales in Kazakhstan are the expansion of Afghan production, the importation of synthetic drugs from Russia and Europe, and the presence of naturally-growing marijuana in Southern Kazakhstan. The main types of drugs illegally crossing into and through the country are Afghan opiates, synthetic drugs, and cannabis.
