Supreme Court lets Trump ballroom project resume for now
In a one‑page order, Chief Justice John Roberts said the preliminary injunction issued on April 16 by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia would be “stayed pending further order” from either the chief justice or the full court. The stay does not resolve the underlying legal dispute but allows construction to move forward for now.
President Donald Trump last year announced plans for a 90,000‑square‑foot ballroom estimated to cost $400 million. A D.C. appeals court previously ruled the project requires congressional approval.
A week ago, the administration petitioned the Supreme Court to lift the lower court’s block, arguing judges had overstepped their authority and insisting the project is necessary for national security.
Earlier, US Senate Republicans unveiled a sweeping $72 billion spending package that directs tens of billions of dollars toward immigration enforcement, alongside funding for border security, law enforcement agencies, and White House ballroom security.
