Summit of Turkic-speaking states pledge cooperation

MATY. October 24. KAZINFORM The first summit of Turkic-speaking countries has adopted a declaration to promote multilateral cooperation between the four member states, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Friday.

"Our council's first summit is held amidst the ongoing global economic crisis. It is necessary to create a joint mechanism of Turkic-speaking countries to counter the global crisis," Nazarbayev told a press conference after the summit.

According to Xinhua, the creation of a business council on Thursday marks a new beginning of trade and economic relations between these countries, said Nazarbayev.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) is a regional organization aiming to strengthen the unity of Turkic-speaking communities. The council comprises Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag, as well as Nazarbayev took part in the summit in Almaty on Thursday and Friday.

The next CCTS summit will be held in Bishkek next year.
