Steppe fire in Karaganda region: no threat to rural settlements

According to the Emergencies Ministry of Kazakhstan, there is no threat to rural settlements including Aiyr, Shoptykol, Kyzylshilikm Atantai and Terekty as a steppe fire rages in Karaganda region, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Vice Minister of Emergencies Yerlan Nurpeissov left for the region.

The fire burnt approximately 35,000 ha in Karaganda region. High wind, mountainous terrain and unavailability of access for firefighters make it difficult to contain the fire.

386 personnel, 64 units of equipment, and aircraft of the Emergencies and Defense Ministries are deployed to fight stepee fire. More than 50 tons of water was dropped on burning dry grass.

According to preliminary information, the fire has ravaged 45,000 ha in the border area of Karaganda and Pavlodar regions. As earlier reported, the steppe fire in Pavlodar region was localized on the territory of 10, 000 ha.
