Speaking native language at official meetings highlights our independence – President of Armenia
During his official visit to Kazakhstan, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan gave a lecture at the Public Administration Academy on “Armenia’s “Crossroads of the World”: National Priority and Cornerstone of Sustainable Development of the South Caucasus,” Kazinform News Agency reports.
The lecture was delivered in the Armenian language.
Addressing the students, Vahagn Khachaturyan said: “I have decided to give the lecture in the Armenian language, although the materials will be provided English and there will be simultaneous translation. For us, it is important that you hear our language, and it is important for us to hear your language too. Being the leaders of two countries, we speak Armenian during official meetings, and the Kazakh side speaks Kazakh. I believe it is very important. This is not just a procedure to show ourselves. It proves that we are independent and sustainable countries.”

Vahagn Khachaturyan touched upon such issues as the public administration system of Armenia, its role in the region, history, transport-logistics potential, socio-economic environment, investment attraction and unemployment in the country.
In his words, unemployment in Armenia stands at 12%, which is a conditional indicator, as the country experiences workforce deficit.
“Our compatriots do not want to work in some or another sector because it is not profitable for them. For this reason, they are called unemployed. Nevertheless, due to our migration policy we attract workers from India and other foreign countries. By various estimates, unemployment level shall not surpass 5%,” Vahagn Khachaturyan said.

On October 15, the Kazakh and Armenian presidents had negotiations in the Akorda presidential residence. The presidents also attended the opening ceremony of the Armenia Culture Days in Astana.
