Spain condemns Israel for 'Freedom Flotilla' detention
Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero described the accident as serious and worrying.
Secretary of State of Spain for European Affairs Diego Lopez Garrido condemned Israel and noted that the actions which led to casualties were absolutely unacceptable. 'We are going to monitor the process of investigation of the incident', he added.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catharine Ashton refrained from commenting this incident from a political point of view, but emphasized that Israel should hold an immediate investigation for the details of what happened.
Besides C. Ashton expressed condolences to the families of victims and asked Israel to open all crossing points to provide necessary humanitarian aid.
According to the reports received from the world's leading news agencies, seven ships with human rights defenders and humanitarian cargo aboard tried to head to Gaza that had been blocked by Israeli military since Hamas took over. Israeli Special Forces attacked the fleet. As a result 10 people were killed and dozens were injured. Israel insists that military stormed the ferry after they had met fierce armed resistance from the people on board.
