South Korea names world-famous soprano Sumi Jo cultural cooperation ambassador
South Korea’s Foreign Ministry has appointed world‑renowned soprano Sumi Jo as cultural cooperation ambassador to promote the global expansion of K‑culture, Qazinform News Agency learned from Yonhap.
The ministry said Jo will support the “K‑Initiative” by advancing Korea’s cultural diplomacy and outreach. Celebrating 40 years since her international debut, the Grammy‑winning artist has previously served as a public relations ambassador for the Korea‑Japan World Cup, a cultural public diplomacy envoy for the ministry and a promotional ambassador for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Professor Lee Seong‑hoon of Sungkonghoe University was also named ambassador for human rights, peace, and democracy.
"Lee is expected to expand the government's participation in international discussions on human rights, peace and democracy by attending relevant international conferences, including the UN Human Rights Council, and by strengthening cooperation networks with like-minded countries and international civil society," the ministry said.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan’s investment potential had been presented in Seoul, South Korea.
