South Africa: police against miners, at least 30 dead

JOHANNESBURG. August 17. KAZINFORM The death toll of the clashes between South African police and miners during the strike in Marikana, in Northwestern South Africa, has risen to 30.
The news comes from the provincial government Ministry of Health, which has been quoted by the Sapa press agency.
Police forces opened fire on thousands of workers who had been camping near the Lonmin platinum mine in Marikan, 100 kilometres from Johannesburg, for a week, AGI said.
