Six wild elephants killed in collision with train in Sri Lanka

Six wild elephants were killed and two others injured on Thursday morning when the herd was hit by a train heading for the capital Colombo from Batticaloa in eastern Sri Lanka, the police said, Xinhua reported.

The police said the accident took place near the Gal Oya railway station in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka.
The train engine was derailed in the accident, but no passenger was injured, the police said.
In a similar accident on the same rail line last October, two elephants were killed, and several others were critically injured.
Last July, a Spanish tourist was trampled to death by some elephants at a national park in North West Province of South Africa after he left the car to take photos.
