Singapore to launch piracy fight on Internet

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (Ipos) said the move was in recognition of the fact that online media are fast becoming a ubiquitous element in the lives of Singaporeans.

As a result, the Internet has become a key battleground in the fight against piracy.

While there is no current statistics on how extensive online piracy is, one indicator is the quantity of file-sharing data, which accounts for 43 percent of an Internet service provider's traffic.

However, Ipos pointed out that it is incorrect to assume peer- to-peer sharing is synonymous with piracy and illegal downloads.

Ipos has also taken a softer tone with its flagship Honor Intellectual Property Alliance public education campaign.
