Silk Road economic belt int'l seminar kicks off in Urumqi

URUMQI. KAZINFORM - A high-profile international seminar "Silk Road economic belt" has started in Urumqi, the administrative center of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The event brought together experts, reps of top-ranking mass media and businessmen from 23 countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Germany, the U.S. and China, of course. Zhang Chunxian, Party Chief of Xinjiang, delivered an opening speech in which he assured those present that Xinjiang will become the largest transport and logistics, financial and educational hub of the region thanks to the Silk Road economic belt. "The Silk Road economic belt goes through 40 countries, involving nearly three billion people. It will bring the Asian-Pacific Region and Europe closer," he added. "The Silk Road economic belt project is fully supported by presidents Nursultan Nazarbayev and Xi Jinping. And it is our mission, as a media outlet, to inform people in Kazakhstan and China of new technologies and business projects within its framework via a special column Silk Road on our website. The column is quite popular among our readership," Deputy Director General of Kazinform International News Agency Ms Kalamkas Abuova said at the seminar. The seminar will be held in Urumqi from June 26 to 27, 2014.
